Hey Barbara,
The Grove center is a good start. I've been keeping a blog about visual art and worship. My church has an arts ministry and I also had a hard time finding resources. I've been working on a map of artsy churches, and I;ve posted some live art and art exhibits that we've had at my church. Hope it helps.

Hi Barbara-

To help with ideas on launching a visual arts ministry, here are 2 resources I recommend:

The Grove Center for the Arts is a Christ-centered organization that has a great free podcast that talks about the first steps toward launching a visual arts ministry. Go to the link below and play the "Developing a Dynamic Visual Art Ministry" audio:
http://www.thegrovecenter.org/grovecasts.php

The other resource I recommend is visiting the A.M.O.K arts Ministry.Pastor Dave Weiss's site has great ideas that can be easily put to use:

Thank you for being here! I am interested in starting up a visual arts ministry to complement our existing FABULOUS music ministry. We actually have a final goal of a total fine arts umbrella that would include drama. Just for today, I'm interested in visual arts, however. What are other churches doing? We strongly wish to create an environment where we are including God's word and inprint on all that we do and become a community Hub for visual arts. We want to include everyone from 0-100+ begininning one step at a time. I welcome all ideas. We are blessed with a wonderful volunteer core to bolster the effort, by the way. Is there a guide book or video out there?

Hey Casey-

I couldn't agree more!

I really believe that more will begin to come forth and I also believe that many from this online community will be involved.

I just found the CTKboston.org site and requested information on their Arts Night and Coffee House.

I'll share my findings with our members.

i know i wrote to you in your email about this, but a church i went to in boston for a year and a half had an arts ministry. CTKboston.com i think is their website. Christ the King presbyterian it was, and a very young crowd and had hired a full time arts minister. We had art shows up all the time in our other main room where everything was, we had weekly arts bible studies and even once a month movie nights. we had yearly arts motivated worship shows with music, dance, live paintings or chalk drawings, drama and of course an art show up. Ed Killeen was the arts ministers name. His huge plan was to eventually get a house and transform it into a gallery/studio/teaching space and make it very community oriented. In a place like boston it's very good to have community places b/c tons of people, especially teenagers, are drawn to places like he was proposing.

I think it's definitely something needed in churches down here. Why should catholics have all the beautiful walls?
