Artist Healed From Blinding Disease, Now Launching Illustrated Novel

The next interview in our “Artist In Action” series is from a personal friend of mine, Mr. E. Frencci Rivera. Frencci and I served at the same ministry several years ago, and I was always motivated by the energy that his “street inspired” style communicated through his work. Read below and check out not only how God restored his sight from a blinding disease, but also how God is launching Frencci’s latest project (don’t miss the video of it at the bottom of the page!):

1. Tell us who you are and what you do as an artist/designer:

frencci-picMy name is E, Frencci Rivera. I am a freelance graphic concept artist creating computer graphic art and illustrating through digital media.

2. Now tell us about your artistic/creative background:
Growing up in the rough inner city streets of New York, I
was greatly influenced by my urban pop culture surroundings.
The Latino/ hip-hop/ graffiti movement of the 70’s, defined
my craft as an artist and has never left the way I conceive
ideas. Later I attended Manhattan’s School of Art & design
which further fueled my desire to keep the pursuit of the industry.

3. What role does God play in your life and in your work?

mendeciTo be truly honest- I wouldn’t be able to answer question (.2) if God had
not had His hand on my life. You see God has been with me before I knew myself.
Everything that I know and have learned as a person, as an artist,  as a husband
and a father, I’ve learned from my Gracious Father in Heaven. He greatly inspires me today
to create, write and illustrate. I so desire to instill this in everything I conceive.
Just a few months back I was diagnosed with an eye blinding disease known as
Macular Edema. After the doctor told me I had less than a year to see, I turned to God
immediately because I knew there was no where else to go. I’m recovering slowly right
now, but above all I’m so thankful that He provided the funding for surgeries, thus
I can keep working and enjoying the fruits of my labor.

4. What advice can you give the rest of us?

Wow! Hone your craft and never be afraid of putting your stuff out there.
The word “breakthrough” literally is a word of action. Pushing to be better
at what you do will eventually get you through the funnel of opportunity.

5. What’s the latest project that you’re most excited about?

Yes! My Science fiction fantasy novel “ Among Men and Serpents”  The Darkyn Child, book one of three. I  believe when I wrote this I
couldn’t help but see it with my eyes as film cameras, shooting multiple scenes to then later edit a full length feature film. Of course, you have to read the book to envision this with me.

  3. What an inspiring testimony! The comment about ‘breakthrough’ being a word of action, is a smart observation. Mr. Rivera is a great example of working hard while trusting God.

God delights when the talents He assigns are put to work and multiplied – the opportunities then always present themselves. I hope this article is as much an inspiration for other artists, as it was for me.

  4. I loved this article. Frencci is a true inspiration and very talented. Best of luck to him and his family during this very trying time.
