The past few weeks, I’ve been blessed to read a book that I believe hit several foundational points that ArtLessonsFromGod.com is really about. It’s called “Finding Divine Inspiration-Working with the Holy Spirit in Your Creativity” by J. Scott McElroy.

What’s interesting is that rather than seeking out the book to read myself, its author sought me out first! Scott called me sometime ago, introducing himself. We finally connected and I began to discover why God wanted to make sure that I read this book, especially as we walk this journey of art connecting with faith.

Why I recommend it: When Scott contacted me; he said that from visiting ArtLessonsFromGod.com, he could see that we were on the same road. After reading this book, I have discovered the very principles that ALFG is about, are a part of the foundational teaching that the author describes in his book.

Three Things I Know You’ll Find Helpful from This Book:

Scott discusses the following principles that will impact your life as an artist:

  • Artists growing our intimate, personal relationship with God.
  • Artists learning to hear to God’s voice.
  • Developing a “Listening Lifestyle”- taking personal “Retreat Time” with God. Not only daily quiet time, but scheduling occassional “Retreat Hours” or even “Retreat Days”!

What it means to you:
Many of you have been asking about how an artist hears from God. This book covers that in a practical way. It demonstrates with examples from artists like Thomas Blackshear and Ron DiCianni how they welcome the Spirit of God before a they dive into the next creative project.

It also discusses the importance of artists and community: church community reaching out to artists as well as artists joining Christian community.

Don’t Hesitate in Getting This Book for Yourself!
