Help for Artists and Designers Without Health Insurance

eye chartAs some of you may have the unfortunate task of already knowing, finding affordable health insurance as a visual artist is a serious matter.
We at ALFG have seen first hand how some of our subscribers have suffered from illnesses and even surgeries on or related to their eyes.

The challenge is that many of these artists have no health insurance.

I knew that someone has to provide answers for these creative people, and from across the internet, I was able to find The Artists Health Insurance Resource Center (AHIRC).

AHIRC is a carefully researched, constantly updated and revised database of annotated links that quickly connect you to the information and services you need.

AHIRC originally began helping only actors and other performing artists. They are now there to help the visual artists as well.

Here’s how the service works:

You contact either Renatta Marinaro in NY or Dan Kitowski in Los Angeles depending upon what part of the country you reside in (east of the Mississippi call Renatta, west of the Mississippi call Dan).

Since AHIRC is not a healthcare provider, what they do is talk with you, asking the right questions of you to determine what health coverage options might be available for you within your state that you did not know about before talking with them.

I’ve spoken with both Dan and Renatta by phone and they both seemed very willing to help us artists find affordable healthcare coverage.

Their website is completely unbiased and they do not accept advertising or commercial endorsements. The only thing they promote is the healthy artists with full access to health care.

They state that their mission is to get every artist in the United States covered.

For more information, contact Dan at 323.933.9244 ext. 32 in Los Angeles, or Renatta at 212-221-7300 ext. 165 in New York. Or visit their website at http://www.ahirc.org/

    Sure thing, John.

These folks sound very eager to help. They have been doing this as a service for actors for years and want to expand to Visual Artists as well.
