Your DOWNTIME Affects Where You End Up IN TIME

remoteWhat you do in your DOWN TIME will have a direct impact on where you will be IN TIME.

Think about where you want to be one year from now. With hectic schedules being almost the norm in today’s era, downtime has become a scarce, yet valuable commodity.

At one point in my life, the only thing that I did in my spare time was watch television. At that pace, I was on the road to being right there on that couch a year later, not accomplishing anything of significance.

I’ve changed that and I’ve learned to use my downtime to take college courses in web design, to do freelance work and to even write (as you can see the result of here). This investment of my downtime has produced a significant return IN time, a return that I’ve benefited from and have found value in.tv watcher

What you do in your downtime affects where you will be in time:
• Reading books will have you more informed a year down the road.
• Completing art projects will have your skills better refined.
• Working on your portfolio could produce more exposure for you a year from now.
• Taking a class or even simple tutorials that you may have put off could lead to a better job or more freelance work.

The parable of the servants and the talents is a good example of how your downtime, when used prayerfully and properly, can advance your life a year down the road. (See Matthew 25:14-28)

So where does God want you to be a year from now?
Many times, it’s not that much of a mystery for creative types like us, because God reveals it through our passion. Whatever it may be, is your downtime a reflection of the place where God wants you a year from now?

• Are you drawing or designing anything?
• Are you reading anything?
• What’s the last tutorial you finally took the time to do?

6 Thoughts on “Your DOWNTIME Affects Where You End Up IN TIME

  1. Doesn’t Matt. 25:14-28 reference Jesus entrusting His followers with the riches of the gospel to invest into the lives of men?
If its about how we spend our time, then no one will escape the fate of the lazy servant.
If its about how we investing time into our natural talents, then God will want to see our portfolio…once again, the vast majority will fail.
I’m not trying to be smug, I’m just trying to test the common interpretations that are out there.

Outside of being entrusted with the riches of God, which is the Gospel of Jesus Christ, I can’t find anywhere in the scriptures where the “talents” of Matthew 25 speaks of money, talent, or time…do you?
    Maybe I missed it.
    Help me out.

I agree. I think about the how successful a lot of athletes are who put in voluntary work during their off seasons to become better at their sport when it’s time to compete
