Now that you’ve had a chance to pick the brains of artists Eric Merced and Dave Weiss who participated in what we call our Angels Among Us online art show, we’re going to continue to give you more insight on some of the artists that created the project:
And now…Joe Spicer:

Joe Spicer
1. What inspired you to create the work that you did for Angels Among
Us?
Well, I love drawing angels because they are real superheroes, if you will. They get to be in the presence of God and are imbued with his infinite power. The descriptions of these incredible beings lend themselves to artwork, for the artist willing to attempt to depict their majesty.
2. What medium did you use?
Pencil to inks, then Photoshop.
3. Is there a process or protocol you go through before you begin
creating, and if so, what is it?
Well, the inspiration is first, then the concept of the layout, followed by color choices. If we’re talking about angel art, I turn to what the bible says about them and then add some of my flair to fill in the gaps.
4. How long did it take you to complete this piece?
A day.
5. Was the image influenced in any way by anything in your life?
It was the typical depiction of Revelation 12:7- “ And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,” (but with my style)
6. What artist(s) inspires you?
Ed McGuinness, Humberto Ramos, Chris Bachalo, and Jim Lee are some of my faves.
