As a Christian working in corporate America, I’ve had a unique perspective. I get to not only see when these two cultures can differ from one another, but I have witnessed where the business world exemplifies practices and concepts that God Himself supports.
What makes this perspective even more unique is my being an artist/illustrator also! On many occasions I mentally ask “What does this mean to the Christian?” followed deeper by “What does this mean to the artist/designer?”
Below are a few brief concepts that are:
1. Corporate Says: This year’s success level may be something worth celebrating now, but it is totally unacceptable for next year. No matter how many millions of dollars were earned by a company this year, generating that same amount next year will not cut it! (God is never satisfied with yesterday’s blessings…THERE”S MORE!)

2. Corporate Says: In order to have a successful year, you must right down targets that clearly define exactly what success is so that everyone involved can be on the same page. (The bible says in Habakkuk 2:2 “…Write the vision and engrave it so plainly upon tablets that everyone who passes may [be able to] read [it easily and quickly] as he hastens by”-amplified version).

3. Corporate Says: Deliberate Action leads to Intentional Progress: Scheduled assignments for the week and the month directly impact the company in meeting those targets that define success (The bible says “ ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’”- Jeremiah 29:11.)

Good morning, Mel!
I agree with you on God being at the core of the motivation.
That’s why my take on taking deliberate action for intentional progress is as follows:
1. Asking the question “God, what do YOU wish to accomplish THROUGH me this year?” (That’s “the Vision”). This helps separate “good” ideas from “God” ideas.
2. Then, through prayer and planning, taking what I believe to be the “God ideas” and committing them to a planner, calendar, journal, etc. This is the start of a simple road map that helps to ensure they get done (Habakkuk 2:2 “…WRITE the vision and engrave it SO PLAINLY upon tablets that everyone who passes may [be able to] read [it easily and quickly] as he hastens by”-amplified version).
3. Having this written roadmap is a point of faith where the Spirit of God guides me to get these PRACTICAL steps accomplished with SUPERNATURAL guidance and in His timeline (“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” Psalm 32:8)
Tony, I have 6 projects that I desire to finish before the Lord’s return or before this year is up.
Also…
I thoroughly appreciate Julian’s honesty.
To be just as honest…despite what I want to accomplish this year…if the love of/for God is not the fuel, then what’s the point in doing it anyway…to get a name?
Gimel:
Thanks for chiming in! Would you say that there are at least 2, if not 3 key projects that you are to accomplish in 2010, and if so, what are they?
Julian:
Good to hear from you, sir! Being on staff at the college, I’m sure that you are no stranger to #2 or #3! I’ve even found that even if no one else saw my written targets, I still have a personal road map for those mornings when I ask myself “W-What am I supposed to work on today?”
I like all 3 but #2 and #3 are my favorites. It is so easy NOT to define goals and to NOT make your plans definitive. No one likes for others to know when they fail to complete something. Many time we believe that by keeping it “off paper” that we are being smart–when really we do not want accountability.
Tony, I see your heart through these questions…I thank God for what He has you seeing and doing.
1. When I draw unto the Lord, their is a discipline of grace that I am placed under. I pray this is not too mystical, but the love of God is driving me, progressively, to be, do, and have my being as a father, husband, friend, son, and artist in Christ.
2. I have projects that have been waiting for my spiritual, mental, and physical development. I have been writing them down for the past 5 years. My frustration was in the waiting for my development, but God has His work to do on the branch before the proper fruit come forth.
3. Between time and eternity, unholiness and holiness…Christ is my hope and I look to Him to fulfill that promise in me in every aspect, minute by minute, day by day, year by year…my success is found in understanding (by the Spirit), applying (through faith),finishing (by grace), what God has provided in Christ.
