This week, a friend asked me to help him with a logo design project by creating an illustrated character to to go with the design.
The company is called “Straightjacket DJ’s, and the idea is to illustrate a pic with a DJ in a straight jacket, a box of vinyl records, and a set of headphones.
The goal is to communicate the “craziness” of this disc jockey team but in a simplistic manner.
Take a look below then let me know which one you’ld prefer:

Thanks, Michele! When you do a sketch or two, be sure to post them on your ALFG page and share with the rest of us:

Tony-
I like the second one too Tony, you can show some teeth in the second one too. Wow Tony, I love your sketching. I need to get going with my sketches, i don’t sketch enough.
Thanks, Dave!
That’s actually the one my friend whom I’m doing it for likes best as well.
Tony-
I like the second one better.
God bless,
Dave
Bluearachnid: Thanks for the feedback! That’s my personal fave between the two.
Gimel: Dude!Great ideas! I can tell you’re a true illustrator…the details…the “seeing the unseen”!
By the way, when was the last time you ever had to write the word “slober”?! LOL!
Tonus Maximus-
There is a difference between demented and crazy.
Demented is a calm controlled evil, but crazy is a wild expression…meaning, show some teeth from a “joker” smile or laugh.
Give the character one big eye and one small…one eye-ball going one way and the other going another way.
Maybe put some slobber dripping from the mouth or on the jacket.
Push the charater forward, towards the viewer, giving the impression of being restrained, but still a threat.
Keep the hat, but maybe, have that mug flying off of the head…this can expose another marker of crazy…wild hair.
Maybe a vinyl background, but smashed or cracked because buddy smacked the back of his head up against it.
Or just a head shot of buddy biting a record and his teeth are cracked and chipped while rockin’ the “crazy eyes”…lookin’ right into yo’ soul.
Or you can draw a cool crazy…charater sitting in a bent-over “L” shape (legs straight, back bowed)…vinyls at the feet…head tilted upward(but looking at the viewer)…hat seated at the back of the head, wild hair peering out, staright-jacket, with the crooked “joker” smile. Try not to hide the vinyls too much, put them in plain sight.
C’mon, Tonus…get loose wit’ it…get crazy!!!!
Or you could pray about it (LOL).
Better yet, pray that you don’t get too crazy with it.
Don’t be surprised if I draw this character and put it on my blog…you got me thinking now.
Thanks for the invite to share ideas, doc…I love bouncing around ideas with fellow artist.
I like the first one.
