Now it’s time to color the character herself.
The goal with this particular subject was to balance between the tough “Soldier Girl” persona while still maintaining her femininity.
Working from a dark silhouette and then adding color and highlights:
Another challenge was to maintain the mood with the shadows and dark tones, but the risk was losing the figure in too much shadow.
I used feedback from several fellow artistsfrom online artist forums that I frequent to help to me tweak the character.
