Stop Praying

A friend of mine said that he wished God would speak to him and share what He wants him to do with his talent. He said he keeps praying but God has been silent.

“Well, what was the last thing that you know for sure God told you to do with your talent?” I asked. “…Start teaching a workshop.” he answered.

“Cool! Have you taken any steps toward that yet?” I said.
“Nah…Not yet. You know how it is, being so busy and all.” he replied.
“I just wish God would tell me what road He wants me to take!” he continued.

STOP Praying…and TAKE the ACTION God told you to take.

Why do we pray, get an answer, yet NOT TAKE ACTION….and turn around and continue to pray again for another solution?

When God has given you instruction on what steps to take, it IS the answer to your prayer.

God says:
“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” -Psalms 32:8

But WHEN that instruction and “next steps” take you out of your comfort zone, do you follow through anyway…or end up praying for a (different) answer?

Here’s a 60 Second Exercise:

1. Take out any old sheet of paper.

2. Write down 1, 2, no more than 3 creative things that came to mind in the last 90 days that you REALLY feel God told you to do (e.g., take a class, launch an online portfolio, get a new sketchbook, get your business cards, etc.) whatever it was for YOU.

3. Ask yourself which of these things have you either completed or have taken consistent action on.

4. MYSTERY SOLVED: If you haven’t finished or at least started the last creative thing God shared with you…why are you praying for more?

Stop praying and follow through with the answer God’s already given you.

8 Thoughts on “Stop Praying

  1. Great article! I agree with everything said. I’ve learned after years of the same” what does He want me to do?!” it is whatever is in front of you. Do what’s at hand. Another thing I learned was that God’s silences are often His answers. If He’s not saying anything new then, again, do what’s at hand, which is often whatever He told you to do last. God is a good God. He’s not going to leave us high and dry wandering around in a circle.

  2. Sometimes answers for guidance come to us as a direct hit. It is an obvious answer, but we still find excuses not to follow. If we don’t heed God’s voice, we find ourselves wandering in the wilderness, possibly for years, not knowing what to do, when all we have to do, is do what he said in the first place.

  3. It is so easy to not act because, “was that me or was that idea, impulse, “voice” really God?” No booming voice you know.

So true. God is an active heavenly Father. He stated in His Word to be imitators of Him. So therefore, we must take action on the vision He has given us.
