Now that we have a pretty large group on the forum now, let's kick off some discussion with your take on the top:
Do you think Christian Artists should create tattoos?

i'm not sure "should" is the right word to use -- i would prefer the option of "christian artists may create tattoos"...

in any case, this was already a subject of discussion on an earlier incarnation of the forums. i believe that [christian] artists are free to create tattoos, or not. the issue for me is the intention and content of the tattoos. i'm sure the spectre of leviticus will be invoked but if we look at it in context it is pretty clear that is about "flesh-cutting" etc. in the context of a pagan religious ritual (the incident with elijah and the prophets of baal also pictures what that practically looks like). i believe it comes down to individual conviction as the bible doesn't make a definitive statement about it.

I personally don't so- when trying to obey God's Word, it's better to be safe than sorry; I have other reasons, too, though:
1.) Health issues. They're often painful to get and have a long history of causing complications. I think that it's probably not worth it to risk health for something cosmetic- although I wouldn't condemn someone who did.
2.) Association with with underculture: I know that it's a stereotype, and not always true, but people tend to be less trustful of people with tattoos; there's also the association with prisons, etc. If someone wants to do it anyway, fine- but many people would never view them as being professional. I heard from a friend in the education field that it's VERY difficult for someone with tattoos to be hired as a teacher. Whether the stereotypes are true or not, the important thing is that lots of people THINK that they're true, which can affect the life of someone with tattoos.
3.) What is someone's tastes change, and they regret getting that "I love Pikachu" tattoo 20 years from now? I realize that there are ways to remove them, but from what I've heard, they aren't very pleasant- and it seems a huge hassle to undergo minor surgery to remove body art. I saw it done on TV once, and I cringed until I changed the channel. >_<

I think that it's basically a personal decision, though: I wouldn't do it, but I don't care if someone else does. People won't go to hell for receiving tattoos.

I believe it wouldn't be wrong to create tattoo art for new found Christians who have had tattoos before becoming saved. I found myself in this situation 5+ years ago. I have a screaming demonic type face tattooed on my left forearm which I had done 16+ years ago. Since being saved by God's Love & Grace, I have been looking for a cover up to replace the face, something to rid myself of the remnants of the sinful nature and to try to make it something much more christian not only to praise God but to also clear my conscience a little more.
